Staedtler Lumocolor Permanent Pen Medium Black Box 10 317-9

Medium Black Lumocolor For Everyday Permanent Marking

Staedtler 317-9 is the black Lumocolor permanent pen with the M tip, writing a line of about 1.0 mm, supplied as a box of 10.

The medium width is the general-purpose setting: bold enough for a box label or freezer bag, controlled enough for a sample tube or a cable flag. Staedtler sell it as a universal pen for almost all surfaces, including overhead film, and their catalogue adds CDs and DVDs. On almost every one of those surfaces the ink is waterproof and resists smudging.

Black is the strongest colour in the Lumocolor range for durability: Staedtler rate it both lightfast and weatherproof, which makes the 317-9 the right pick for asset tags, garden stakes, outdoor equipment and anything that sits in daylight. Odour is low, the catalogue lists the ink as xylene and toluene free, it dries in seconds and it can stay uncapped for days without drying out.

Each pen has a locked tip, a PP barrel and cap, and airplane-safe pressure equalisation. Staedtler state it is made in Germany, and their 487 17 refill pot can top it up several times.
