J. Herbin: Fontaine des Quatre Parties du Monde
This ink is part of the Paris Collection, a series of five colors inspired by the landmarks and historical soul of the City of Light.
-
The Inspiration: The ink is named after the Fontaine de l’Observatoire in the Luxembourg Gardens. The bronze fountain features four female figures holding a celestial globe, representing the four continents known at the time of its creation: Europe, Asia, Africa, and America.
-
The Color Profile: This is a rich, sophisticated Teal with a strong green lean. It captures the oxidized bronze “verdigris” patina of the fountain’s statues and the lush, shaded greenery of the surrounding gardens.
-
Complex Shading: True to the Herbin legacy, this ink offers excellent shading. In broader or wetter nibs, youll see it transition from a bright, watery turquoise to a deep, mossy teal, mimicking the look of water flowing over aged metal.
-
30ml Paris Edition Bottle: While it uses the classic 30ml glass bottle with the integrated pen rest, the labeling and packaging are part of the specialized Paris Collection aesthetic.
Writing Experience & Specifications
-
Flow & Consistency: It is a fluid, well-lubricated ink. It writes “wet,” which makes it exceptionally smooth on the page, though it behaves remarkably well even on less-than-perfect paper.
-
Non-Pigmented & Safe: Even though it captures a “bronze” aesthetic, it contains no shimmer or particles. It is a pure dye-based ink, making it 100% safe for all fountain pens, including rare vintage models and delicate vacuum-fillers.
-
Versatility for Daily Writing: Dark enough for professional notes and correspondence.
-
Creative Work: Vibrant enough for sketching, wash effects, and artistic journaling.
-
The Enthusiasts Note: “This is arguably the most ‘Parisian’ color in the collection. While the others represent the rooftops or the Eiffel Tower, this ink captures the atmosphere of a rainy afternoon in the Jardin du Luxembourg. Its a moody, intellectual green-teal that feels very ‘old world’.”
