Meet The Camden.

Named for the city where RichardEsterbrooksettled his company, the Camden Collection speaks to a time in the 1930s when Camden, NJ was at its most prosperous and home to some of the most important innovations of its day. Perhaps most famously, it was the birthplace of RCA Victor where, in 1933, an experimental TV station broadcast would be the first signs of technology that would ultimately eclipse the radio. As RCA was producing millions of records,Esterbrookwas producing millions of pens. One can almost hear the sounds of the production belts humming along still. Now, this dignified American town of the early twentieth century, translates to an equally classic pen. As records have made their comeback in the last decade, so too, has the American fountain pen. Produced in three colors, Rose, Graphite and Silver, with bright silver hardware, the Camden, is streamlined and sleek. Designed for ultimate comfort when writing, the pen features a contoured grip section and a satin-like finish with a grain that harkens to the grooves on arecord. The pen is balanced with a weight that feels substantial without feeling like, well, heavy metal. Whether you are penning daily notes, journaling, planning, or writing the next great tune for the American songbook, the Camden will become a standard in your collection.

Esterbrook is one of the greatest names in American pen history. Founded in 1858, by their peak they were making 216 million pens a year. Unfortunately, as the market changed, Esterbrook went out of business in 1971. Now they’re back, though, with the name brought back and the designs reinvented by Kenro Industries, who have plenty of experience of bringing back or continuing famous pen brands.

The Camden is named after the town where Esterbrook started. It has classically simple styling, but with a beautiful brushed anodised (or anodized, perhaps, since they’re American) aluminium (no, they’re not having that one) finish. It’s a nice mix of classic and modern, and while the metal body gives it a solid feel, it’s still quite lightweight.

There’s a bit of spring to push against as you re-cap the pen, as the insert that seals around the nib unit pushes gently back, so it makes a good seal – this helps prevent the ink drying out if you don’t use it for a while.

150mm long capped, 130mm uncapped, 171mm posted – though it’s a little risky to use posted, as the same spring mechanism that helps form a good seal when capped tends to try to throw the cap off! 15mm wide, 9.5mm at grip, weighs 32g.

Supplied in a nice cloth gift box and liquid ink refill.
